We all know what an important space the kitchen is – it’s not just for cooking, that’s for sure! It’s a busy family hub, the best place for any party, and of course…it’s where the coffee is. With a room this special, it’s important to make sure that it’s not only functional, but that it looks and feels perfect. There are lots of kitchen design trends that come and go, and trying to keep up with the latest décor can be overwhelming, especially if you’re trying to sell your home fast and you need to really wow prospective buyers. That’s why we’ve put together some of the top kitchen trends of 2019 that won’t break the bank or require a big renovation; check them out here:

Be bold

Well, grey, it’s been fun, but there are bold new paint colours making their way into the kitchen this year. While white in a kitchen is always on trend, this year’s must-have colours include deep greens and blues, rich tans, cozy clays and even a touch of black. That’s right…black! The possibilities are endless, and you can match shades that work best for your home and lighting. However, if you’re eager to sell your house in a hurry, it’s best to avoid bold, bright colours and stick with more neutral shades that are more appealing to buyers.

Big & bigger backsplashes

Look up, look wayyy up. That’s how high backsplashes are reaching this year – all the way to the ceiling! Your basic backsplash can be transformed into a stylish, textured feature wall and add a touch of pizazz to your kitchen.

Take a seat

A fun, new trend we’re seeing more of is the return of the kitchen nook and bench seating. Have a look at your kitchen and see if a corner nook with plush cushions might work; the sunnier the better. Bench seating can also work well with kitchen and dining room tables and some benches serve as a handy storage space too.

Open or shut?

While the debate on open vs. closed shelving rages on, we are starting to see an end to the open concept trend. Let’s face it, it’s harder to clean and organize shelves with no doors, so we’re OK with seeing the return of the classic kitchen cabinet. Metallic touches Brass and copper are so hot right now, as are metallic paint finishes, hardware and accents. From range hoods to hanging pots, you can rock your heavy metal looks.

Reclaimed wood

Recycled, repurposed…whatever you want to call it, big bold and old wood features are making a statement. From ceilings to accent walls, floors, islands, butcher blocks and more, these repurposed pieces add a delightful, warm touch to your kitchen.

Ultimately however, when it comes to kitchen décor trends, the key is to make sure it works for you and matches the feel of your unique home. Frankly, it would be near-impossible (and terribly expensive) to upgrade your kitchen every time a new trend came along. Luckily, many of these new kitchen styles can be done in a weekend or two, and will make a big statement in your home. If you’re really pinched for time, a touch of fresh paint, a few in-style accents, and a thorough decluttering are great ways to update and refresh your kitchen.
